Beter Engels en ‘Dunglish’
Nederlanders spreken vaak een soort Engels dat ook wel ‘Dunglish’ wordt genoemd .. een kruising tussen ‘Dutch’ en ‘English’. Dunglish is meestal wel begrijpelijk maar komisch voor het Engelse oor, omdat er vaak een Nederlandse zinsconstructie wordt gebruikt die direct naar het Engels wordt vertaald! In een aantal gevallen is Dunglish gewoon echt onbegrijpelijk voor de gemiddelde Brit.

You would never hear an English person say this. When referring to the past, the past tense should be used. This is the present prefect tense!

Use of the present progressive tense is incorrect if you are referring to a regular activity. The present simple tense should be used!

This is the wrong tense. This should be the past passive and not the present passive
We are with four of us
Beware of the word ‘with’.. in English you say ‘There are four of us’
I think that that man is a politician
How would you prononuce this? The a’s which are italicised should be pronounced as the ‘e’ sound in the Dutch word ‘de’. The other a sound are short versions of the ‘aa’ sound in ‘schaap’ and ‘straat’
There are four chairs in this room
How would you prononuce the ‘s’ in chairs? It should be pronounced like the ‘z’ in ‘zebra’, not the ‘s’ in ‘kassa’
When it rains tomorrow, we’ll stay in
If you’re not sure about something, use IF rather than WHEN!
If you would give me a reduction, I would buy the car right now
This conditional sentence should not repeat the word ‘would’. The first phrase should be in the past tense.
